IT Courses “Reassuringly Expensive?

Funny lady Linda Smith used to say, “I love Waitrose – it’s that little bit more expensive.

It’s a funny old world, but until the recent global financial panic, we consumers were sold the view that Price is an indicator of quality, or “Let’s be honest, cheap equals crap. Advertisers perpetuated the myth – picture the mouth-watering M&S ads, with “This is not ordinary food, this is…. Conversely, the supermarkets Value or Basic ranges were acknowledged by spendthrifts but most of us didn’t give a second glance.

In Computer training, high price colleges (aren’t they superior - if you have the money - why else would they be so well known?) acknowledged that colleges exist who’ll do it cheaper but be careful, you get what you pay for…. .

Then a short time passes, the economic future is uncertain, and all of a sudden value becomes our mantra! Middle class mummies limit their trips to Waitrose, and instead discover the delights of Aldi and Lidl. Stockbrokers and their fat cat payouts are the curse of the devil, and we all look more closely at who we’re buying from.

Maybe we’ve been taken in by paying higher prices? Look a little closer into the country’s IT training market, and maybe the big boys with their fancy prices are not all they seem. Just because there’s a great need for an ever increasing number of skilled IT professionals, should we really be paying 5k–8k to get qualified, or are we missing something better? It’s a bit ironic that many computer training providers are preaching one thing whilst practicing another - supplying students with out of date methods. Should we really have to pour over books when anything can be downloaded onto discs? Do we really have to drive to training centres, spending more money for our accommodation to get teaching we could have online? Round the clock Interactive training should be available for me anywhere – at my convenience, but not at my cost.

With more up-to-date, user friendly training options available at a fraction of the cost of these prices, perhaps we should wake up to the fact that when it comes to electronic learning, value is higher quality for a more reasonable price. Things are changing in IT training – in supermarket terms, it’s “Simply Value prices, for “Best Ever products. In this uncertain world we live in, I’d say that’s a step in the right direction.
